What a day this was for our team. Maddy and Riley Nichols celebrated their wedding at the Cedar Room in Charleston, South Carolina, and from the moment we arrived at 1:00 p.m., we knew it was going to be something special.

Because the Cedar Room doesn’t have getting-ready spaces onsite, Maddy and her girls spent the morning at a beautiful home just a few minutes away. When we walked in, the energy was contagious. Blue satin dresses filled the room, music was playing, and every single person there was fully present for Maddy. She’s a dancer at heart, full of life, and someone who loves her people deeply. You could feel that reflected back at her all day. Everyone wanted to show up for her in the same way she has shown up for them.

Maddy wore a strapless gown with a stunning lace veil that caught the light in the most timeless way. We actually photographed her bridal portraits in downtown Charleston the day before, since rain was on the forecast for the wedding day. That decision gave us the best of both worlds, classic Charleston architecture for her bridals and the moody, romantic feel of a rainy wedding day.

And honestly? The rain didn’t matter.

The Cedar Room’s massive windows created the most beautiful natural light, even with the clouds and steady sprinkle outside. We embraced the weather and grabbed umbrella portraits that felt iconic and completely Charleston. Sometimes the forecast becomes part of the story, and this one worked perfectly.

Riley and his groomsmen kept it classic in gray suits with blue ties. Riley set himself apart with a bow tie, sharp, intentional, and very “him.”

At the center of this day was something deeper than aesthetics or timelines: their faith. It wasn’t just mentioned, it was woven into everything. Riley’s mother led worship during the ceremony, which was incredibly meaningful and personal. And before Maddy walked down the aisle, after everyone else had entered, the officiant paused to speak directly to Riley about the purpose of marriage and preparing himself to receive his bride. Our team had never seen that done before, and it was powerful. You could feel the weight and intention behind it.

Maddy and Riley chose not to do a first look, but they did share a first touch, back to back, saving the full reveal for the aisle. Maddy did have a first look with her bridesmaids and her dad. Those are the moments that remind you why you document weddings the way we do, not rushed, not staged, just fully present.

The ceremony was indoors, warm and softly lit against the rainy Charleston afternoon. When Maddy finally walked down the aisle, Riley’s reaction said everything. The vows were sincere and grounded, reflecting the foundation their relationship is built on.

Then came the reception, and the energy shifted in the best way.

Dance floor: 10 out of 10.

From the first song, the DJ had the room moving. We were weaving through the crowd all night, capturing spins, jumps, hugs, and the kind of moments you can’t script. When Maddy and Riley shared their first dance, and later their dances with their parents, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. You could see how much family means to them. It was emotional, genuine, and deeply felt.

And then, the most Charleston ending possible, they exited in a rickshaw.

It was playful, joyful, and completely them. A perfect send-off through the historic streets of a city that already feels like a love story.
